J'ai parcouru ce tronçon de la Camino Frances before and have always stopped in this little village and my favourite Pension has a swimming pool, and is called Albergue Casa Barbadelo.

Here’s some helpful advice for selecting the best Albergues in Barbadelo so you can make the most of your time on The Camino Trail and this fantastic small Spanish village.

The Church in barbadelo

Barbadelo is a really small village that is located in a rural area of northern Spain, and as such, it doesn’t really have a lot of things to do as the village is centred around village life the church and Pilgrims passing through walking the Camino Frances.

The Church of Santiago or Iglesias de Santiago, is a significant religious landmark in the village of Barbadelo, located in the province of Lugo, Galicia, Spain.

This Romanesque church, dedicated to Saint James (Santiago in Spanish), holds historical and cultural importance, particularly due to its location along the Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James).

As part of the renowned Camino Francés pilgrimage route, the Church of Santiago in Barbadelo welcomes and provides solace to weary pilgrims on their journey.

The Church of Santiago boasts a beautiful stone facade adorned with intricate details and features typical of the Romanesque architectural style.

Its construction dates back to the 12th century, showcasing the enduring heritage of the region. The interior of the church is equally captivating, with ornate altars, religious artwork, and a serene atmosphere that invites contemplation and reflection.

Visitors to Barbadelo can explore the Church of Santiago, appreciating its historical significance and the spiritual energy it holds. As pilgrims pass through this small village, they often pause at the church to offer prayers, seek blessings or simply marvel at its architectural beauty.

The church stands as a testament to the religious devotion and cultural heritage that has been associated with the Camino de Santiago for centuries.

In addition to its religious importance, Barbadelo itself provides a tranquil and picturesque setting. Surrounded by the natural beauty of Galicia, with rolling hills, green landscapes, and a rural atmosphere, the village offers a peaceful retreat for travelers.

While amenities in Barbadelo may be limited, neighboring towns such as Sarria provide additional services and facilities for those seeking accommodations, dining options and shopping opportunities.

The village is only a few kilometres from Sarria and is a good stopping place as Pilgrims are ahead of the busy Pilgrims leaving Sarria each morning.

Can I eat at Albergue Casa barbadelo

The good news is there is a really good bar and restaurant in the Barbadelo Albergue and the food is top class.

We spent our day around the pool after a long walk on the Camino with a few glasses of white wine and then booked a table for the evening for our dinner with the pilgrim friends we had been chatting too around the pool.
