Im amazed by the noises Pilgrims on the Camino can make !<\/p><p>We started out at 5.30am in the dark of the morning. I had my <a class=\"thirstylink\" title=\"Lampe frontale Pilgrim\" href=\"https:\/\/followtheyellowshell.com\/fr\/recommends\/pilgrim-headtorch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><strong>head torch<\/strong><\/a> on and the climb was upwards straight away from leaving the albergue.<\/p><p>Once we arrived at the top of the climb we walked through a really dense pine forest and there was Pilgrim symbols and sculptures everywhere.<\/p><p>There we&#8217;re even saw some Pilgrim totem poles hidden in amongst the trees.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9009d27 elementor-widget elementor-widget-global elementor-global-14719 class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The previous day we had met a couple of Brits from Gloucester and had walked with them for a while.\u00a0<\/p><p>They had stayed in the same Albergue as us and we walked together with them heading for the small hamlet of Ages for our first breakfast stop.\u00a0<\/p><p>We had a Pilgrim breakfast at Bar\/Cafe <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/turismoburgos.es\/elalquimista\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">El Aquimista<\/a><\/strong> and it was much needed. The building is a classic old building that&#8217;s hundreds of years old and was well worth the visit. This village is famous for being the place where the oldest human remains in Europe have been found.&nbsp;<\/p><p>The site is a short walk off the Camino trail should you want to visit.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ea16a81 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"ea16a81\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Atapuerca<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-dce5f5c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"dce5f5c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>One of the most astonishing discoveries at <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/whc.unesco.org\/en\/list\/989\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Atapuerca<\/a><\/strong> is a cave called Sima de los Huesos (\u201cPit of the Bones\u201d), where <b>more than 1,600 human fossils, including several nearly complete skulls<\/b>, have been found. The age of this material is at least 300,000 years and may be as old as 600,000 years.<\/p><p>The site was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2000.<\/p><p>After Atapuerca we kept walking through village after village until we came to the outskirts of Burgos.\u00a0<\/p><p>At this stage we thought we were pretty close. The heat was getting to me but Pilgrim Bob seemed to be full of energy.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-eff9f00 elementor-widget day, take the river walk. It is the most beautiful section of a river walk and whilst it is longer and seems to last forever its worth doing.<\/p>\n<p>I have talked to lots of Pilgrims that took the shorter walk through the industrial area and they hated it. It&#8217;s all on asphalt.<\/p>\n<p>The problem is the guide actually says its shorter than it is and after we had done mo<span style=\"font-style: inherit; color: var(--ast-global-color-3); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-4);\">st of it in 33C degree heat we were knackered so had to take a rest.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-style: inherit; color: var(--ast-global-color-3); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-4);\">There was a comfy wall on the outskirts of Burgos and it felt great to take a rest.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-style: inherit; color: var(--ast-global-color-3); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-4);\">This had been out longest stage walk on the Camino Frances so far and at 42km was very worldwide. Specially remarkable are its portal, the \u201c<strong>Puerta del Sarmental<\/strong>\u201c, considered the best example of gothic sculpture of its century and the Cloister. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: inherit; color: var(--ast-global-color-3); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-4);\">The 15th century chapel, \u201c<\/span><strong style=\"font-style: inherit; color: var(--ast-global-color-3);\">Capilla del Condestable<\/strong><span style=\"background-color: var(--ast-global-color-4);\"><span style=\"color: var(--ast-global-color-3); font-style: inherit;\">\u201c, is another work of unique architectonic value.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"background-color: var(--ast-global-color-4);\"><span style=\"color: var(--ast-global-color-3); font-style: inherit;\">If&nbsp;<\/span>you<span style=\"color: var(--ast-global-color-3); font-style: inherit;\">&nbsp;get the time and your schedule allows I would recommend a lay over in Burgos and seeing as much of its history as possible.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d93d34b elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"d93d34b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Who is El Cid ?<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a22bf43 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a22bf43\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Rodrigo D\u00edaz de Vivar was a Castilian knight in medieval Spain. The Moors called him El Cid. He was born in Vivar del Cid, a village near the city of Burgos.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>D\u00edaz de Vivar became well known for his service in the armies of both Christian and Muslim rulers, his exile, and his temporary conquest of Valencia, which became independent for a brief period in the Reconquista.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After his death, El Cid became Spain\u2019s celebrated national hero.&nbsp;<span style=\"font-style: inherit; color: var(--ast-global-color-3); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-4);\">He is perhaps more widely known as \u201cEl Cid Campeador\u201d (El Cid meaning The Lord, or Master, and Campeador meaning The Champion, an honorable title rarely given to a man during his lifetime).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: inherit; color: var(--ast-global-color-3); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-4);\">Once he became a knight, Rodrigo soon distinguished himself in such a manner that he was appointed to be the commander of the Castilian army under King Sancho II.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-style: inherit; color: var(--ast-global-color-3); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-4);\">Rodrigo proved himself in several battles in which the Castilian army was always victorious under his capable leadership, and it was during this time that he earned the title El Cid, as well as the honorific title of Campeador.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: var(--ast-global-color-4);\"><span style=\"color: var(--ast-global-color-3); font-style: inherit;\">The tomb of El Cid and Burgos&nbsp;<\/span>cathedral<span style=\"color:
