steep<\/li><\/ul><div><p style=\"font-size: 20px; font-style: normal;\"><span style=\"color: var(--ast-global-color-3); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-4);\">After a tiring day yesterday we just had a few beers with a Pizza and went straight to bed at our albergue (which was in a caravan park)<\/span><\/p><p style=\"font-size: 20px; font-style: normal;\">The Camino del Norte Day 2 &#8211; Igueldo to Zarautz takes us further along the Camino del Norte and a lovely day we have planned.<\/p><p style=\"font-size: 20px; font-style: normal;\">Day 1 on the Camino del Norte was a big distance day and a real challenge and this section is no different.<\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-00708d2 we&#8217;ve decided not to do another really long day again. We have got 12km before we can get some breakfast.\u00a0<\/p><p>Before that we are heading upwards again and have a climb to over 315m before heading into our breakfast location.<\/p><p>This section is just like walking the south west coast path in the UK from Porlock to Lynmouth. The scenery is breathtaking.\u00a0<\/p><p>It was 2 hrs hard slog before we arrived in the port side town of Orio for breakfast and I was glad to get my <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3BAMj1N\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">backpack<\/a> off and rest.<\/p><p><span style=\"font-style: inherit; color: var(--ast-global-color-3); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-4);\">The cafe con leche and pain au chocolate was amazing. I have definitely fallen in love with Cafe con Leche as its so different to the coffee in the UK.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-style: inherit; color: var(--ast-global-color-3); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-4);\">Myself, Pilgrim Bob (below) and Pilgrim Burny are probably having about 4 a day at the moment&#8230; so great little town on the river Oria and not far away from the mouth of the Bay of Biscay.\u00a0<\/p><p>On the day we arrived there was a massive rowing event on and the town was covered in yellow flags.<\/p><p>Everyone was having breakfast outside in the sunshine in a sea of yellow shirts with everyone getting very excited.\u00a0<\/p><p>T<span style=\"font-style: inherit; color: var(--ast-global-color-3); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-4);\">he whole region seems to be into this sport big style. If we had spare time we would have definitely stayed and watched.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-style: inherit; color: var(--ast-global-color-3); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-4);\">The Camino Del Norte has some amazing villages and towns on which to spend some spare time if you fancy a slower walk.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-28bd088 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"28bd088\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Rowing Regatas of Donostia \u2013 San Sebasti\u00e1n<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cef7eef elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cef7eef\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fishing boats competing \u201cagainst the wind and the tide\u201d for the flag of \u00b4La Concha\u00b4.<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-style: inherit; color: var(--ast-global-color-3); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-4);\">More than a hundred years of tradition have made the\u00a0La Concha trawler races\u00a0the spectacle of the\u00a0Basque\u00a0sporting year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-style: inherit; color: var(--ast-global-color-3); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-4);\">Crowds of fans,\u00a0each in the colour of his or her own team, throng the surrounding area, the Island, beaches and in boats of all kinds, when\u00a0the first two Sundays of September\u00a0arrive.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The team from Orio wear yellow and have won the most victories in the race with 32. <\/span><b>No wonder the town was getting very excited<\/b>.<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216;The trawler regattas arise from a specific way of life:\u00a0the open sea fishing environment. The La Concha regattas were organised for the first time in\u00a01879\u00a0as part of the\u00a0programme of summer festivities in San Sebastian.\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fishing trawlers were used for this purpose, which until then had been pitted against each other mainly in\u00a0challenges for money. Now it just town and club pride.<\/p><p>We wished we could have stayed and watched the races but &#8216;<strong>The Way<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216; called us seaside resort of Zarautz which turns out to be a very pleasant town.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-edb1a0c elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"edb1a0c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Zarautz<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-42d5f60 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"42d5f60\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>It is essentially a seaside town that gets very busy in season and has a lovely 2.5km beach across the whole bay. I believe it has the longest bay in the Basque Country.<\/p><p>The beach is divided in three different areas. The western end is dedicated to families and bathers, the center is a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/surfspots.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perfect spot for surfers<\/a><\/strong> and the eastern end is less sparsely packed and a good spot for those that want to bare it all. Yep, you heard me right \ud83d\ude42<\/p><p>We had planned to walk further but decided to call it a day and this seaside town seemed like a great place to chill out as it has some great things to do:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a989c98 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"a989c98\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Restaurants<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6b9cbae elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6b9cbae\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The restaurants on the Camino del Norte are excellent and Zarautz is no different especially if you like fish and seafood.<\/p><p>Among the most typical dishes are merluza a la koxkera (hake), chipirones en su tinta (squid in its own ink) and bacalao a la vizca\u00edna (codfish in Biscayan sauce).\u00a0<\/p><p>Seafood is really popular all across northern Spain and the Basque coast but I&#8217;m told there is one local dish that every visitor should try. That is the chipirones a lo Pelayo (squid with onions).<\/p><p>I love Squid and onions so may be worth a try. Tapas are typically free but Pintxos normally require pYING A SMALL CHARGE FOR.<\/p><p>Pintxos are an integral part of northern Spanish life and are never called Tapas. I&#8217;d remember that when ordering.<\/p><p>They typically come in all styles and colours and are fabulous.
