The Camino Frances runs directly along the main street of this medieval village and is roughly 11 km from Logrono.
I’ve walked this route a few times and I always stop in this village and stay at one of the Albergues in Navarrete.
My favourite albergue is detailed below for quick access.

Navarrete
Navarrete is a small medieval town in the province of La Rioja, located on the Camino Francés, Le chemin de Saint-Jacques de Compostelle est le plus populaire des chemins de pèlerinage.
It offers a small range of activities that are centered around the town, its history and the local culture.
It is typical of a lot of Spanish towns that are situated on a hill with the streets in concentric circles around the hill.

What to do in Navarette
Here are some of things you can do when stopping in Navarrete:
Navarrete’s most famous landmark is the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, which was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 2020.
The church is located in the heart of the town and is a popular place of pilgrimage for those walking the Camino.
For such a small town the church is amazing and worth exploring. It is a Romanesque church with some beautiful paintings and artwork.
Top Tip: Spend a Euro and see all the gold leaf adorned walls spring to life under the lights. Its a site to see and one not to miss.
Navarrete is a very small town on the Camino de Santiago but it is worth taking some time to explore the local streets, cafes and bars and mix with the local people who are very friendly.
Navarrete is in the Rioja region so take some time out to have a good bottle of wine and enjoy relaxing with other Pilgrims.
Sometimes its just great to watch Pilgrims as they walk through the village. You will nearly always see someone you have talked to before.
If you are staying in Navarrete for the night, you might consider a small climb up to the ‘Tedeón’ to where the castle once stood.
There is a nice picnic park there and a good view of the surrounding land and the 7 towns of La Rioja and their mountains.

Where to eat in Navarette
The region of La Rioja is famous for its wine, and Navarrete is no exception. The town is located in the heart of the Rioja wine region and is surrounded by vineyards and wineries.
There is a great bar located at the bottom of the steps up to the church called Casa de comidas Begoña y Antonio. The cold beers and Tapas were fantastic.
The local cuisine of Navarrete is based on traditional recipes and ingredients and there are restaurants in the village that offer delicious regional dishes.
For our evening meal we ate at the Hotel Rey Sancho. It was €15 euro a person but the food was really good and is well worth eating here.
