The second big city on the Camino Frances route is Burgos and after a long days walk to get there the next days stage is a nice short walk to get to the village of Hornillos del Camino.
Its often worth staying in the smaller villages to get a good local experience on the Camino Frances and something I regularly do.
The Albergues in Hornillos del Camino give a good choice of accommodation. I stayed in the Albergue el Alfar de Hornillos and the details are below for quick access.

Hornillos del Camino
Hornillos del Camino is another charming village nestled along the famous Camino Francés, le chemin de pèlerinage le plus populaire du Camino de Santiago dans le nord de l'Espagne.
It’s a small village with only about 50 inhabitants but a perfect place to stop over if you want to stay in between larger cities and want a small camino village experience.
Le village est situé dans la région de La Rioja, connue pour ses vignobles et sa production de vin. Si vous êtes un amateur de vin, vous pourriez donc trouver ici un petit coin de paradis.
One of the standout features of Hornillos del Camino is its historic church, Iglesia de San Roman, Hornillos del Camino once had 3 pilgrim hospitals in the Middle Ages and was a super busy village.
The church and village dates back centuries and is a testament to the village’s rich history. I bet there are some fascinating stories that were told here in the past.
Il est typique d'un grand nombre de petits villages espagnols situés le long de la côte. Camino de Santiago.
Conseils pour les pèlerins qui marchent sur le Camino
What to do in Hornillos del Camino
Hornillos del Camino is such a small village, there isn’t a lot to do after your days walk apart from relaxing, talking to other Pilgrims and taking a stroll around the village for a beer in the local cafe or bar.
Bar Casa Manolo is a good place to while away the remainder of the day talking about the Camino, or even writing in your Camino journal.
It’s also well worth a visit if you can get into the local church and have a look around.

Where to eat in Hornillos del Camino
The options for eating are limited to a couple of cafe bars with the standard camino fare in them.
When we passed through Hornillos del Camino we spent the afternoon over a couple of beers outside Bar Casa Manolo chatting with Pilgrims and really relaxing.
Le présent Albergue turned out to be really good and has a kitchen and laundry facilities.
We did our washing and then decided to make our own dinner. Pilgrim Bob was the chef for the night.
We had read stories before our Camino of the availability of kitchen facilities and the opportunity to make dinner for a large group of people and something Pilgrim Bob really wanted to do.
Unfortunately there were no other Pilgrims to make dinner for as they were all in groups but we just got on with it. We got supplies from a small grocery store opposite the Albergue called Alimentacion.
He made us a great pasta dish washed down with a local red wine and all for a few euros. We had a fantastic pilgrim experience on the Camino in this village. We even cracked open a second bottle.
Hornillos del Camino is a really small one bar/one shop village and easy to pass through but a nice place to stop.
