Camino Francés Día 6 - Torres del Río a Navarrete

Todays walk is on the Camino Francés Day 6 and we’re walking from Torres del Rio to Navarrete.

The church is Navarrete is supposed to be magnificent so we’re hoping we get chance to have a look around when we arrive.

Camino Frances Day 6 Overview

  • Distance – 33km
  • From – Torres del Rio
  • To – Navarrete
  • Min/Max Elevation – 370/579m
  • Elevation gain – 614m
  • Steps – 50,000

We had a great evening in Torres del Rio last night and had a lovely meal at Hotel de San Andrés. We had the Pilgrim dinner which was €15 Euro and came with free wine ! It was a roasted lamb dish and was fantastic.

We ended up playing cards outside the bar with a cold beer as it was really hot and humid and then off to bed for 9.30.

After going to bed for an early night we were hoping for a good pilgrims night sleep. Sometimes hope doesn’t work ! We got no sleep again.

There was a German pilgrim in the albergue and he was literally the loudest person I have ever come across. We gave him a nickname… Ulrich Van Schnitzel Burger !!

We ended up getting up at 4.45am and we were on the Camino trail at just after 5.15am. It was pitch black so our head torches became invaluable.

Today was a bit of a boring day as a lot of it was walking through commercialised areas so not a lot of picture opportunities, although I did like this picture from a tunnel under one of the roads.

We plowed on walking for most of the day passing Los Arcos and the city of Logrono where we stopped for a coffee in a lovely little cafe in the centre.

Once you get the far side of Logrono you have to start the walk through the park which stretches for a few kilometres but is a nice walk. Eventually you arrive at the reservoir high in the hills.

We finally arrived in Navarrete at 2.15 pm. after 9 hrs of walking and we did 38km. The best day yet ! and I think that’s actually a marathon too !!!

It was so hot we had to have a welcome cold pint when we arrived at the Pilgrims Albergue run by a German chap called Michael.

We also met Leike and Peter a Dutch father and daughter combo that have walked all the way from Holland and have been walking for over 2 months !

We weren’t to know it at this stage but we were to become firm friends and they became part of our Camino family as they ended up walking ahead of us by a day or 2.

We chatted so much whilst on the Camino Francés they actually waited for us in Santiago de Compostela and we celebrated together. Pilgrims of the first order !

Walking the Camino Frances Day 6 from Torres del Rio to Navarrete was a fantastic days walk.

Navarrete has an amazing cathedral style church that would grace any city in the world. Especially as this town only has about a 1000 inhabitants.

I recommend taking the time to see this spectacle. The inside of the church is truly amazing! There is gold everywhere.

Albergues en Navarrete

We stayed in the Albergue de Peregrinos Navarrete. Simple rooms with a bar and restaurant and did the trick for €10 per person.

On another trip on the El Camino de Santiago we did 9 días en el Camino Francés  and stayed at the Hotel Villa Navarrete. We had a room for 3 which was good. Sometimes you just have to stay in a hotel and treat yourself.

We ate at the Hotel Rey Sancho. It was €15 euro a person but the food was really good and is well worth eating here. The also do rooms here.
