Mejores albergues de Camino en Azqueta

The Camino Frances runs directly through the small village of Azqueta along the main street of this medieval village and is roughly 11 km from Logrono.

I’ve walked this route for the first time in 2016 and the hospitality of the Albergues in Azqueta was really amazing.

My favourite Albergue La Perla Negra and the only one in the village, is detailed below for quick access.

La Perla Negra in Azqueta

Azqueta

Azqueta is a small village in the province of La Rioja, located on the Camino Francés, the most popular pilgrimage route of the Camino de Santiago.

It’s a very small village with no amenities at all apart from one bar and cafe called Bar Azketako

It is typical of a lot of small Spanish villages that are situated along the Camino de Santiago.

What to do in Azqueta

Bar Azketako in Azqueta

Azqueta is a really small village so there isn’t a lot to do after stopping apart rom relaxing, talking to other Pilgrims and taking a stroll around the village for a beer in the local bar.

There is a small medieval parish church called the Church of San Pedro. The church was modified in the 16th century and has a renaissance gothic style.

It’s well worth a visit if you can get in.

I also make sure I take care of my feet after a hard day on the road. To keep any hot spots or blisters at bay i follow the same regime for all my walks on the Camino.

Where to eat in Azqueta

Whilst  there is a bar in the village that does snacks and food, La Perla Negra Albergue comes with a communal dinner as well as breakfast.

When we stayed there there was 9 people staying in the albergue which is owned by a Spanish lady called Helena. There were 3 Brits, 4 Germans, an American and 1 pilgrim from Brazil.

Helena cooked us all a home cooked meal which was absolutely amazing.

Our host left us to have dinner washed down with a really great red wine from the local Irache winery.

Once we had finished she came up to chat with us and we learned about her journey on the Camino and why she had bought a house on the Camino to help Pilgrims on the Way.

She talked to us about how beginners could easily walk the Camino Frances with some training and we agreed as that exactly what we had done.

It was one of those great Camino Pilgrim experiences and an Albergue I recommend staying at.

I stayed in the La Perla Negra Albergue in the centre of Azqueta and would stay there again if I passed through again..

Its the only Albergue in Azofra with 9 beds and is a perfect place to stay and relax after a long walk on the trail.

Resumen

Azqueta is a nice quiet, relaxing place to stay and get an amazing Camino de Santiago experience. Its a small village with very little to do although the Church is nice to visit.

The Albergues in Azqueta offer a good option for every Pilgrim to enjoy some good local food and a chance to relax before continuing your Pilgrimage.
