One of the hottest days we&#8217;ve had so far on our journey to Santiago.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-68bafb9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"68bafb9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Camino Frances Day 19 Overview<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fc7f150 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"fc7f150\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>Distance &#8211; 28 km<\/li><li>From &#8211; Hospital de Orbigo<\/li><li>To &#8211; Santa Catalina de Somoza<\/li><li>Min\/Max Elevation &#8211; 820m\/980m<\/li><li>Elevation gain &#8211; 382m<\/li><li>Steps &#8211; 39,000<\/li><\/ul><div><p>We had a fantastic day in the afternoon sun in Hospital de Orbigo and after a few glasses of wine In the afternoon we ate and headed to our albergue for an early night.<\/p><p>We headed off on the trail at 6.30am to get a head start before the heat of the sun took hold.<\/p><p>After an hours walking we had a quick stop for coffee and toast in Santibanez de Valdeiglesias and then kept going as we wanted to get to San Justo de la Vega as we&#8217;ve been told the best Tortilla on the Camino is here.<\/p><p>We made it San Justo de la Vega and found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CafeBarOasisChana\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bar Oasis<\/a>.\u00a0<span style=\"font-style: inherit; color: var(--ast-global-color-3); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-4);\">Folklore says they have the best tortilla on the Camino. Susie was a real inspiration.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-585a031 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" slog but we did pass through the fantastic town of Astorga which is really nice and well worth a stop over.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0a3bfa5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"0a3bfa5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Astorga<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8e0f1be elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8e0f1be\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Astorga is a town in north Spain and sits at the crossroads of the Camino Frances and the Roman Silver Road. It is known for its medieval walled old town and is renowned as the European birthplace of chocolate.<\/p><p>The old town will take you back to a previous point in time as it was a main stopping point for Pilgrims on the Camino to Santiago de Compostela.\u00a0<\/p><p>The Episcopal Palace was designed by modernist Antonio Gaud\u00ed and houses Los Caminos Museum.<\/p><p>For some of these reasons this is a popular starting point for pilgrims walking the Camino so expect to see an increase in the numbers walking the trail.<\/p><p>Have a read about spending the <strong><a stopping for coffee and cake in Astorga we had planned to walk further to Santa Catalina so we set off and only had another 5km before we got there.<\/p><p>It was so hot today and one of the hottest since we had been on the Camino. directly through the centre of the village and sone of those villages Pilgrims have been staying for centuries. \u00a0There are 2 albergues and 1 hostal and a bar and restaurant. that&#8217;s it.
